Christmas in New York is a magical time, and one of the highlights of the season is taking in a performance of that treasured holiday classic The Nutcracker at Lincoln Center. This year, of course, things will be a little bit different—since the New York City Ballet cancelled its fall, winter, and spring seasons, audiences sadly won’t get to partake in that in-person tradition this year.

But the Christmas spirit is still alive and well, albeit in a different form. Today, Sotheby’s and New York City Ballet announced a special partnership to create an exclusive short film inspired by The Nutcracker. The original work—choreographed by NYCB soloist and choreographer Peter Walker—was specially created for, and filmed in, Sotheby’s galleries, and kicks off the auction house’s upcoming luxury sales series, The Festival of Wonder.

The two dancers in the film—NYCB soloist, Sebastian Villarini-Velez, and Corps de Ballet member, India Bradley—were styled in glittering jewelry and watches from Sotheby’s December marquee auctions. After an undeniably difficult year, it’s a true spirit boost to watch them leap and twirl into the new year (admiring all that jewelry doesn’t hurt, either.)

The Festival of Wonder will run until December 14, offering jewels, watches, designer handbags, wine and more across a series of live and online sales. You can visit the exhibition, by appointment only, by contacting appointmentsNY@sothebys.com or calling 212-606-7171.
