Linger Longer is situated in the sought-after Canal Point residential community, offering private gated access in one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in the Cayman Islands.
Awards & Certifications
Two years young, this beautiful waterfront home was awarded the 2017 Governor’s Award for design and construction excellence. It also attained an LEED Gold rating which, architect and consultant Stace McGee ensured was at the forefront of consideration.
What is an LEED rating?
The LEED system is the most widely used green building rating system in the world with 1.85 million square feet of construction space certified every day. The certification provides independent verification of a building or neighborhood’s green features, allowing for the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of resource-efficient, high-performing, healthy, cost-effective buildings.
Thoughtful Layout
When considering their new home, the owners wanted to build a property that suited their lifestyle. A love of the Cayman environment and gathering with family & friends meant that the home would need to offer a welcoming atmosphere, great entertaining spaces and a place to house their boat for direct access to the North Sound, Rum Point, Cayman Kai and world-famous, Stingray City.
Thus, a three-bedroom, single-storey home was planned and built with meticulous attention to detail. It features a cupola (or clear storey), positioned above the kitchen: the heart of the home.
The architect’s task was to include the owners’ love of the Caymanian aesthetic but also provide traditional techniques that promote natural cooling. The result was pitched roofs, character siding and shady areas. Covered porches shade the home from direct sunlight and high ceilings allow warm air to escape from living areas into the cupola.
The cupola feature includes remote-controlled windows which allow natural light to pour into the home whilst venting heat from living spaces.
Breezes & Protection
The home is raised 11 feet above sea level allowing for cool breezes. Adding a breezeway between the garage and front door increases airflow and pulls hot air from the house. Efficient air conditioning units and insulation considerations mean utility bills are lower than what the owners had previously paid in a home less than half the size.
Bright & Beautiful
With 3,000 square feet of living space in a square floor plan, there is an easy flow between the kitchen, dining and living spaces. Bright open interiors abound thanks to a series of glass doors and a spacious terrace that feels like a natural extension of the indoor living spaces to the outdoors.
Gorgeous vaulted ceilings painted in bright white compliment bright Caribbean colours and interior décor. A sense of openness is felt and combined with the colour palette means each space feels unique.
While the home exudes a Cayman-Caribbean cottage vibe, carefully chosen modern pieces reflect the owner’s style without exceeding the owners’ set budget. Some of the pieces include:
- A distinctive Currey & Co. chandelier in the dining room
- Beautiful wave-patterned bathroom tiles from ITC
- Island-inspired window treatments by Edies’ Décor
- A welcoming 9’ x 5’ pivot front door.
We can only describe the pool as “ridiculously beautiful” – Owners, Linger Longer, Cayman 2019
Culinary Delight
The kitchen must not be understated. We’ve mentioned the cupola allows for ventilation and natural light directly above the kitchen, but any chef’s kitchen includes many other features. Some of these include vast counter top areas, smart cabinet planning plus ample storage space along with the ability to hide small appliances and clutter. An extra-large fridge and chefs range make cooking for a large group a breeze.
Inspired entertaining space
After a fabulous day out on the water, the private boat dock is positioned just steps away from the terrace which includes a sophisticated outdoor kitchen and entertaining area overlooking sparkling canal waters.
Delight in the luxurious, dark blue infinity-edge pool which includes glass tiles that shimmer along the waterline. The tiles exude shades of gold, violet, green and blue, offering another focus element outdoors. The pool, designed by Oasis Pool & Spa and built by Pool Patrol, is “ridiculously beautiful” as described by the owners, the ambiance at night, created by lights and colours can only be appreciated when experienced first-hand.
